Can you really learn to stop a Panic Attack?

The good news is you can be trained to stop a panic attack right when it starts. Even better, it’s possible to learn to prevent these attacks from happening in the first place.

Unfortunately it is common for people to use unhealthy ways of managing their anxiety when they don’t know how to gain control. Alcohol is a common drug people use to feel soothe themselves when anxiety and panic hit The problem with this approach is that it can easily lead to alcohol dependence while doing nothing to provide lasting relief. Alcohol dependence will also lead to a much greater problem than your anxiety and still does not  provide a cure for your panic attacks.

Here are some other typical damaging methods of relieving panic attacks:

1. Street drugs
2. Staying away from places or people where a panic attack has occurred.
3. Overeating, mostly junk food, to soothe your nerves  resulting in unwanted weight gain
4. Prescription drugs. Although it can be safe to work with a doctor to take anti-anxiety medication or tranquilizers, you run the risk of becoming addicted and you still don’t learn how to stop your panic attacks.

Each one of these coping methods can lead to an even worse problem than panic attacks and do nothing to cure the underlying cause of the panic or prevent future anxiety attacks.

Here are 4 good ways to quickly cure your panic attacks:

1. Remind yourself you are not going to die and the feelings of panic will go away.

2. Determine what is really causing your anxiety. Do you drink to much coffee or caffeine? Are you in a location (interview, new city, airplane, etc.) where most people would feel some anxiety?
3. Don’t let scary thoughts race through your mind. Tell yourself it’s all right to feel panicky at times and it doesn’t mean you are crazy. All of us feel feels anxiety and fear at times and you will be okay.
4. Find ways to get your mind off of your fears. Get busy or try exercise. Exercise is a great, healthy way of coping with panic attacks and general anxiety.

Constant worry and anxiety, your stomach aches, you get dizzy and can’t breathe. All the muscles in your body react to anxiety and can lead to a panic anxiety attack.  You are always tired, but can’t sleep.

Anxiety causes panic which makes it hard to concentrate and keeps you tense and jumpy.  You are always thinking the worst thing is going to happen if you go around that corner.

Fear, the definition of fear is:

- A feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger. Again we hear the word anxiety.

-A reason for dread or apprehension

-To be uneasy or apprehensive

Anxiety attacks, known as panic attacks in health circles, are periods of intense panic or fear. One minute you are fine, the next minute you could have an anxiety attack completely without warning.

One thing that will help you to know is that anxiety panic attacks usually last ten minutes, seldom do they last more than half an hour.
