Larry at long last made up his mind to go and see his family healthcare practitioner about his irresponsible drinking.  At first, Larry thought he would be able to simply go online, look for some basic alcohol info, and determine whether or not he was alcohol dependent.  Not surprisingly, he discovered more than a few websites that specified some of the well-known alcoholism symptoms.  That’s the good news. The less positive news, regrettably, was that Larry showed signs of many of these alcoholism symptoms.

Alcohol Addiction Symptoms Revisited

As a case in point, Larry was drinking increasingly more than usual and he was beginning to have more impassioned squabbles with his girlfriend.  In addition, for the first time in his life he was having sleeping problems. Besides this, Larry time and again felt depressed and on an increasing basis he had been exhibiting poor attention to detail while at work.

Moreover, he felt stressed out and more uptight on a regular basis and for the past several months he had shown signs of cloudy thinking at his place of work.  Given that Larry manifested all of these symptoms, he was rightly uncomfortable about his hazardous drinking.

So Larry decided to contact his family doctor and ask for an appointment.  Actually, this was hard for Larry because his healthcare professional was also his parents’ doctor.  The springboard for his disquiet was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and expose his irresponsible and excessive drinking behavior to his doctor.

When Larry arrived at the healthcare professional’s office, he candidly notified the physician about the apprehension he had about his irresponsible drinking behavior.  When the doctor asked what was stimulating this anxiety, Larry articulated that he had gone on the Internet and read about alcohol addiction and especially about alcohol dependency symptoms. He then listed all of the alcohol dependency symptoms that he obviously thought he manifested.

An Exhaustive Physical Evaluation and Outpatient Alcohol Treatment

The healthcare professional notified Larry that it was prudent of him to focus on his drinking difficulties, he gave Larry a thorough physical exam, and recommended that he enter into an out-patient alcohol rehabilitation center that was supervised by one of his doctor colleagues.

In the same way, when Larry mentioned that he had been feeling gloom to a greater degree, the family doctor notified Larry that alcoholism and depression often come about in the same person.  Hence, the healthcare practitioner also suggested that Larry get therapy to address his gloom.

The Advantage of Facing Your Drinking Difficulties

The healthcare professional made it a point to notify Larry that he might not necessarily be alcohol dependent, but that he was obviously drinking in a hazardous manner.  The healthcare practitioner then notified Larry that the reason he suggested alcohol rehab in the first place was because he wanted him to face up to his drinking difficulties, make sure that he stopped them from going downhill further, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to totally stop drinking.

To be brief, by effectively treating his drinking problems, Larry would be able to get his drinking issues under control and abstain from the negative cycle of events that could doubtless result in addiction to alcohol.

Unmistakably, Larry did not want to face the thought of enrolling in an alcohol treatment facility. Nor was he thrilled about going to a therapist about his melancholy.  Despite these apprehensions, then again, Larry in fact experienced some emotional relief for the first time in many months because at last he stopped making excuses for himself and at long last finally made up his mind that he needed to do something positive about his drinking activities.
