Yet Another Nutrition Label for Packaged Foods
There is a new nutrition information label that will be appearing on packaged foods early in 2009 according to a recent ABC News story. This one is called a “Smart Choice” label and will be printed on the front of food packages. It will mainly highlight how many servings of the food are in the package and how many calories there are per serving. The label will be a trademarked program and certain packaged foods that are high in fat or sodium will not be eligible to display the label. Fresh produce would not be labeled either.
However, it is a good idea to keep track of the total calories and nutrients of the food you eat each day, whether those foods have labels or not. A nutrition software program, such as the one available from zolosoft.com can make it easy to track daily nutrition.
